General Membership Meetings are held once a month, typically on the first Thursday unless a holiday falls within that week. If the holiday falls within the first week of the month the meeting will automatically be moved to the following week.

All meetings are held in the main hall beginning at 7:00pm and lasting anywhere from one hour to one and one half hours. All members are encouraged to attend whenever possible.

ECCL Highpower Rifle matches are held at the 200/300 yard range on the FIRST and LAST Saturday of each month from March through October. These are walk-and-paste style matches, no pits. All matches are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Erie County Conservation League Highpower Rifle program is a fun and welcoming group that meets twice a month to continue refining our skills in CMP-style marksmanship. We mutually support each other in developing our marksmanship and would like to see you come out to give our sport a try. ALL Highpower Matches are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and we encourage ALL shooters to bring out your AR-15, 1903Springfield, 1903A3, M-1 Garand, M-1A or vintage military rifle. All you need to bring is ear and eye protection,your rifle, and 50 rounds of ammunition. We also have extra equipment that we can make available for novice shooters to come out and learn with us.

Course of Fire for this event will be:

3 minute preparation period and 5 minute sighting in period will be run as a block time of 8 minutes.
10 Slow Offhand shots in 10 minutes at 200 yards on the SR target.
10 Rapid Sitting shots, with a magazine change, in 60 seconds at 200 yards on the SR target.
10 Rapid Prone shots, with a magazine change, in 70 seconds at 200 yards on an SR-42 reduced 300 yard target.
10 Slow Prone shots in 10 minutes at 200 yards on an SR-52 reduced 600 yard target.

The 50 Yard range will be closed to all other activities and shooter during this Match.

Here is an activity for the whole family. Bring your significant other and spend a nice morning shooting on the 50 yard range. The only thing you need is a rifle with a scope or peep sights. This is also a great activity for a father and son or daughter or grandchild. There is no age limit. Just the ability to safely handle a gun, and a knowledge of safety on the range.

Come out on the first Sunday of the month (April through October) and check it out. If you ask one of the RSO’s, they will loan you a rifle to try out. It’s always a good day when you can spend it at the range with family. Sign up starts at 9:15 and we shoot from 10 AM till about noon. Note that weather does play a factor on the range, so please check the ECCL web site under Activities – .22 Rimfire before coming to make sure that the event has not been canceled due to weather.

10 shots slow fire standing and 10 shots rapid fire standing at 25 yards

Participants will need their CMP Competitor Number
Participants must complete a CMP "Release of Liability" form at Registration
This match is registered with the CMP and awards pins will be issued to those with qualifying scores
Mandatory Safety briefing begins 10 minutes prior to each relay
There are 15 covered firing points to accommodate competitors

The New Member Orientation Sessions are held on the Saturday following the General Membership Meetings or the first Saturday of the month. Exceptions to this are when holidays fall within that week.

All prospective new members should arrive early to ensure there is time enough for photographs for your badge. Photo ID is also required.

These sessions begin at 9:00 am and include a tour of the ranges. Participants should plan accordingly for the various weather conditions and temperatures. All sessions include the special safety training for the Steel Range no matter if you have chosen to pay for it's use. The session ending times may vary slightly due to questions and audience participants but generally by 10:30/10:45am. All sessions are conducted by RSO (Range Safety Officers).

Depending on the class size, your badge may need to be mailed to you. Every effort will be made to get it completed by the end of your session however we cannot guarantee this.

•   All participants must sign a Release of Liability Waiver (one per year)

•   CCW holders: Please unload your carry gun at your vehicle before proceeding to sign-in.
•   Exercise caution when readying all equipment before the event begins. Be sure to follow the Rules and Regulations listed in regards to handling and storing firearms as well as practical common sense

Registration details
Shooters will sign up for one (1) relay. After everyone present has signed up we will then sign up for a second relay. Further relays will be filled and shot in the time allotted. NOTE: If you fire more than one (1) relay in the same classification, only the first score will be used towards yearly averages. All scores will be posted.

Equipment / Firearms
Any safe firearm / center fire 30 caliber or smaller may be used. NO FULLY AUTO FIREARMS PERMITTED. All firearms will be loaded and fired one(1) round at a time. Muzzle brakes may be used with the exception of the Clam-Shell type that directs the gasses backwards. Any type front rest along with rear rest and bipods may be used. ONE PIECE RESTS (I.e. Lead Sled) IS NOT PERMITTED.

*****FIREARMS CLASSIFICATIONS*****
Factory
Firearms must have original manufacturers barrel, stock and action. Triggers may be tuned along with free floating barrels and bedding of the action. Any sight or optics under 8 power will shoot SR-3 target. NO flat bottom stocks or guns built for target shooting such as Remington 40X BRS, Ruger Custom Shop APR, Browning X bolt target match etc. will shoot unlimited class target MR-63.

Varmint Class
This Class is for all deer, hog, coyote varmint hunters. Bring out any caliber up to a 30 caliber and try our 200-yard targets. This is a class just for varmint guns. Any sight or optics is allowed. No mechanical rest. Only sand bag or front tripod rest allowed. 8-minute unlimited sighter rounds, and 10 minutes to shoot 10 rounds for score. Target for score will be the outline of a groundhog with scoring rings. Senior Range Safety officer will have final say if rifle qualifies for a varmint rifle.

Unlimited
Any firearm which has been modified by adding aftermarket parts to enhance accuracy, or a rifle that has been built on a custom action. Any sights or optics are allowed.

Ar-15 / Service
- Any AR-15 / Service style rifle as defined by the CMP rules. May use either Iron sights or optics up to 4-1/2 power.

VM - Vintage Military
- Any military rifle used prior to the AR-15 era. May use either Iron sights or optics up to 8-power.

Final classification of firearms will be at the discretion of the Match Director.

RANGE SAFETY
Any firearm out of its protective case must have an Empty Chamber Indicator (ECI) inserted while on club grounds.

ALL competitors and other persons in the immediate vicinity of the firing line must wear eye and ear protection.

Anytime the Target Crew, or anyone, is down range, ALL firearms must have an ECI inserted and no one may touch any firearm for any reason.

As a courtesy to the shooters, please keep conversations low key and behind the wooden bumper posts. If you are not on the firing line please stay behind the concrete pad.

Any person violating this, or ANY safety rule will be subject to removal from the shoot – PERIOD.

If approached by the Match Director or a Range Safety Officer (RSO), you always have the right to challenge their opinions by going to the Board, BUT NOT THEIR AUTHORITY. The Match Director and RSOs are doing everything they can to ensure everyone’s safety – treat them with the respect they deserve.

TARGETS
The NRS SR-3 target will be used by AR-15 / Service rifles and Vintage Military rifles.
The NRS MR-63 target will be used by all Unlimited and Factory rifles. This target will be reversed and shot with a 2-inch red dot.

SIGHT-IN
Each match will commence with an 8-minute sight-in period allowing unlimited shots. MR-63C F Class target shooters will have an 8-1/2 x 11 paper with a 2-inch red dot for sighting purposes. The SR-3 target shooters will shoot their record target for sighting. The shots will then be marked with golf tees for viewing. The shots will then be pasted and the target made ready for record shots.

COURSE OF FIRE
The match will consist of twenty (20) record shots in a twenty (20) minute time period. Firing will commence and end at the direction of the Match Directors.

Anyone observing an unsafe condition must call a CEASE FIRE at once. Any shooter having a problem with a firearm, target or any other problem should get the line officers attention so appropriate action can be taken. Please be courteous to others so they can shoot without distraction. Any shooters that complete their course of fire before the twenty (20) minutes time period has ended, that shooter must make their firearm safe, ground or bench the firearm and install an Empty Chamber Indicator. The firearm must not be removed from the line until directed to do so by the Line Officer.

When time elapses, the Line Officer will call a cease fire and all shooting will end. All firearms will be made safe. At the direction of the Line Officer, all firearms will be cased and removed from the firing line. Once the Line is declared “SAFE” the Target Crew will retrieve the targets for scoring. At this time all competitors may remove their equipment from the line. At the direction of the Line Officer, the following relay can then place their equipment (NOT FIREARMS) at their firing point. When the Target Crew has properly placed the targets and returned behind the line of fire, the Line Officer will then give the command to bring firearms to the line and uncase firearms with ECI properly installed. Please be aware of when your relay is about to start. Please be SAFE in setting up your gear. We will provide adequate time for all competitors to set up.

Targets will be scored after you shoot, but then become your property. Please make certain your target has been scored correctly. Should you have a concern, please let us know immediately. Once the Match has concluded the scores are final and no changes will be made.

You may shoot both Iron and Scope rifles during the season, however you will have to declare which of the two categories you want to participate in for end-of-ear awards during your first shoot of the year. Also, the Scope or Iron rifle that you decide to be your qualifying rifle for the end-of-year awards must be used on the first relay you shoot each Sunday.

Welcome Shooters to the 2026 season!

If you have ever wanted to take your rimfire shooting skills and shoot in a organized scored event than this is for you.
This event is designed to be beginner friendly for shooters of all skill levels. If you are new to shooting or a seasoned competitor or somewhere in between, this event is for you as there is plenty of fun to be had by competitors of all ages and skill levels. It’s quite common for entire families to shoot matches together.

This is family-friendly shooting discipline, and is open to the public, club membership is encouraged but not required.

How does it work?

Steel Challenge is all about ringing steel as fast as you can!
When it’s your turn to complete the course of fire, you step into the shooting box. A range official will issue a series of commands for you to prepare your firearm. Once you’re ready, the timer will beep and you’ll shoot the steel plates. Five of the plates can be shot in any order you choose. The last plate, known as the “stop plate,” must be shot last. This signifies that you have completed your attempt at the course of fire. The post for the stop plate is usually painted red or some other color so that new competitors can remember which plate to shoot last. If in doubt, just ask the range official. After shooting the plates, your time is recorded on an electronic scoring tablet. You repeat this process four times; each run is known as a string. After the final string is completed, your worst time is thrown out and the total time for your three fastest strings is your time for the stage. The competitor with the lowest total time for all stages is the winner for that match,
( it is interesting to note that because you have four strings at the same targets. you are competing against yourself as well.) We record everyone's scores and send the participants the results by email after the match.

What you need to participate

Steel Challenge Rimfire Rifles and Pistols

In Steel Challenge there is no limitation as to what type of rimfire pistol or rifle you can use. If speed is what you’re after then a semi-automatic pistol or rifle will be the best option but there is nothing stopping you from using a lever action or even bolt-action rifle. It is imperative that your bring a good working rifle or pistol. It is best you take it to the range before coming to the course of fire to make sure it is in good working order and the magazines function properly. If you have fewer than 4 magazines you can have a helper load your magazines while you are shooting your second string.

We have four divisions the shooter can compete in

Pistol with Iron sights
Pistol with optic
Rifle with Iron sights
Rifle with optic

You will be shooting from the "low ready position" so no holsters will be permitted.
Because you will be shooting 4 times during your turn we recommend having four magazines but it is not necessary.At least 80 rounds of .22 ammunition is recommended
All firearms must be in a case and have a ECI empty chamber indicator.
As always eye and hearing protection are required.

On the Day of the event

We will meet at the Club's 50 yard range. Beginning at 9:30 participants will sign up for the event and pay their match fees: $5.00 for members and $10.00 for guests. Under 18 shoot free
We will have a safety briefing followed by a match overview prior to beginning the match at 10:00am. Depending on attendance, match usually concludes by 12:00

Marie Casper Ladies Day Event

The Marie Casper Ladies Day event has been held for many years at Erie County Conservation League to honor Marie, a long-time club member who thought it important to teach and train ladies to handle firearms and archery equipment.

This event is open to female club members and non-members 14 and up. You can be an accomplished shooter or new to the sport. We have coaches set up to help introduce you to different shooting disciplines: pistol, rifle, shotgun, and archery.

Your required entry fee for the event is a dish to share serving between 10-15 people. Your dish can be homemade or store-bought.
A-I Dessert J-R Main Entree S-Z Salad/Vegetable

Even though the event is free (except for the dish) to participate in the event you must register.

September 20, 2026 - Registration to close

0845: Safety Briefing and Gate will close

0900: Relay 1 will begin firing, depending of conditions

1015: Relay 2 will begin firing, depending on conditions

Cost:

ECCL Members: $5 per relay
Non-Members: $10 per relay
Active Duty military, law enforcement, and juniors: FREE

Course of Fire for this event will be:

3 minute preparation period and 5 minute sighting in period will be run as a block time of 8 minutes.
10 Slow Offhand shots in 10 minutes at 200 yards on the SR target.
10 Rapid Sitting shots, with a magazine change, in 60 seconds at 200 yards on the SR target.
10 Rapid Prone shots, with a magazine change, in 70 seconds at 200 yards on an SR-42 reduced 300 yard target.
10 Slow Prone shots in 10 minutes at 200 yards on an SR-52 reduced 600 yard target.
